What we teach!

Jesus was truly a Master teacher. He often told a parable, an earthly story with a spiritual truth.   His earthly stories were directed to his audience at the time and related to their understanding of a subject such as sowing of seed, planting a vineyard, leaven in making bread, testing oxen, and other subjects such as servants, talents, sheep, and so on.
While a spiritual truth never changes, the audience and their understanding of subjects have changed greatly.  With that thought in mind, a modern day parable could be as effective today as it was two thousand years ago to teach the same spiritual truth.
What could make a great modern day parable?  It must relate to the spiritual truth, be understood by all people of all ages and backgrounds and endure the ages of time.
I would like to suggest the railroad train for the following reasons.  Trains were introduced to civilization in the nineteenth century and today every theme park has one or more, every major city has a subway train, many large airports employ a rail system, and chances are you and your children or grandchildren have recently seen or ridden on a train.  The steam engine has long past yet children still desire today to have a toy steam train that makes the unforgettable sounds and can still be found in toy stores or any mall today.  Untold number of songs and music today are related to the rhythm and sounds of the steam engine railroad, such as Blues, Bluegrass, Folk, Country and Western, Rap, and more.   Railroading teaches team work, alertness, time management, safety, trust, obedience, courtesy, and dealing with obstacles, all part of life.  We believe children and adults alike will better relate to these spiritual truths when applied to a real life situation, a modern day parable about trains.
