The Crossing on Lakeview
Seaboard Air Line’s Silver Meteor
Colonial Heights, Virginia
In just a few minutes, the Silver
Meteor will be making its next stop at Petersburg. Before arriving, it must
cross over the Lakeview section
of Swift Creek. Lakeview was created when a dam was built down stream on the
creek. Just out of the image to the left was a popular
swimming hole appropriately called Lakeview Park. Seaboard Air Line’s E-4A No.
3006 was initially assigned to their new stainless steel
streamlined coach train and wore the assignment nameplate on its sides. On
December 1, 1939, the Silver Meteor began daily service between
New York and Miami. The trip could be made in about 25 hours.
