Organized as Market Street Methodist Episcopal Church South on June 8, 1857.
The first building was constructed on Market Street at Halifax at a cost
$24,000.00.
Trinity Church moved to the current building on South Sycamore Street on
February 25, 1923.
Trinity Church was designed by architect R.E. Mitchell and constructed of
Indiana limestone.
The Georgian revival structure was inspired by St. Martin in the Field Chapel
near London, England.
Trinity Church continues weekly services today. The pipe organ is regularly
used during worship.

Jonathan Shockley on Flute is an Operations Research Analyst working at
Fort Lee. He
holds a BS in Mathematics from Virginia State and dances with the Colonial
Williamsburg
Dance Company at The Capital on Saturday evenings. Recently hearing
Baroque
instruments in Williamsburg, Jonathan decided to pursue the Recorder. From
there he
has gone on to study the Baroque flute and has developed quite a large
repertoire.
Jonathan plays amazingly well and recently played in Williamsburg.
Louise Jefferson Daniel on Organ, Harp, and Piano is a native of
Petersburg and
comes from a long line of family musicians who have touched the local area.
Louise
graduated from Petersburg High School, and receive her BA from Lynchburg College
and MEd from Virginia Commonwealth University. She studied organ with
Madeline
Ingram, Franz Engle, and Ardyth Lohuis. Louise was raised in the Memorial
United
Methodist Church and often plays here at Trinity in Petersburg, Virginia.

Ice Cream social followed the concert.
This special celebration and concert was in keeping with the
mission
of the Historic Petersburg Foundation, Inc. to promote widespread
knowledge of the city's unique architectural and historical heritage.
